Kennesaw Man Sentenced to 15 Years For Road Rage Incident

James Matthew Colomb pulled a gun on a man in front of his family after being cut off in traffic.

MARIETTA, GA — A Kennesaw man will spend 15 years in prison after a road-rage assault.

Shortly after noon on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, James Matthew Colomb was driving his Mercedes on Barrett Parkway near Chastain Meadows, in the Town Center area, when another driver inadvertently cut him off in traffic.

Colomb followed the vehicle to America’s Best Contacts and Eyeglasses, where he confronted the other driver, a man who was with his wife and three children. The man apologized to Colomb, and Colomb began to exit.

The victim continued walking to the storefront, smiling with his family. When Colomb saw that, he put his car in reverse, opened his car door and pointed a handgun at the victim, saying he could “wipe the smile off his face.”

The victim stepped in front of his family, fearing Colomb might shoot. Colomb then left the scene.

“Five lives were forever changed when this Defendant decided to point a gun,” said ADA Stephanie Adrean, who prosecuted the case. “This happened in the middle of a Saturday, on a busy road, based on an innocent traffic maneuver. Someone who is willing to pull a gun under these circumstances is an extreme danger to the community.”

On Wednesday, a Cobb jury convicted Colomb of aggravated assault.

Shortly after the verdict, Cobb Superior Court Judge Mary Staley Clark sentenced Colomb to serve 15 years in prison.
