KENNESAW, Ga.
(Jan 13, 2021)
— With the theme “Building Bridges not Barriers,” Kennesaw State University will host
a week of activities honoring Martin Luther King Jr. Day, beginning with a virtual
keynote address by the Rev. Harold Middlebrook.

As an undergraduate at Morehouse College in the 1960s, Middlebrook got involved with
the civil rights movement and met the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the start of
a deep friendship. Middlebrook was on the balcony at the Lorraine Hotel in Memphis
when King was shot and killed there in 1968. Middlebrook continued in his political
activities while serving several pastorships in Tennessee and has appeared in documentary
films about the civil rights movement.
