KSU Contunuing Ed Program Gets Federal Funding
The grant covers training expenses for individuals who have been laid off or whose household income is at or below the poverty line.

KSU’s College of Continuing and Professional Education has announced its Information Systems Security Professional certificate program is now approved for Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Funding. WIOA is a federal grant that covers training expenses for individuals who have been laid off, or whose household income is at or below the federal poverty level. This additional form of financing will open the door of opportunity to several new students.
As cybersecurity breaches continue at an alarming rate, the ISSP course trains students to become a vital asset in this critical industry. In addition to teaching individuals the essentials of information systems security, the class will help prepare them for the CISSP® exam. The course, slated to begin Sept. 9, is instructed by Larry Holt, a retired Major, U.S. Army Intelligence and author possessing more than 20 years of relevant experience.

“This is a higher level management course that brings everything together through a holistic approach of security and teaches students to be a leader in information security going forward,” Holt said.
Yahoo ranked information security as the No. 1 career field with a bright outlook that pays more than $70,000 a year. The Department of Labor cited a projected employment growth rate of 37% through 2022.

Nathaniel Gray, 2015 graduate, said, “I can use the knowledge and information I learned from this course to go into a lot of different areas.”
