KSU OLLI Civil War Tours Scheduled for May
Series of tours will be guided by Civil War historian and instructor Michael K. Shaffer

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at KSU’s College of Continuing and Professional Education will host a series of Civil War history tours guided by Civil War historian and instructor Michael K. Shaffer. The tours, scheduled for three consecutive Saturdays in May 2018, will cover the opening of the Atlanta Campaign in May 1864 and visit various battlefields. Each tour will also include exclusive insights from local history specialists.
Locations for the Atlanta Campaign Tours Include:
- May 5
The fields of Resaca, including the newly opened Camp Creek site, where the armies of Major General William T. Sherman dugin opposite the Army of Tennessee. Resaca guide Tony Patton will assist this tour.
- May 12
Peachtree Creek, Ezra Church and other locations as Confederate General John Bell Hood attempted to hold the city. Civil War history buff Steve Davis of Atlanta will guide this tour. - May 19
A tour of the various earthworks in and around Dalton. This tour will explore the opening action of the Atlanta Campaign. Dalton expert Robert Jenkins will guide this tour.
The “Sites of the Atlanta Campaign Tours” course is eligible for the Al and Chet OLLI Scholarship. The cost for the course is $240 per person. Course fee includes three weekends of guided tours (May 5, 12 and 19) and roundtrip transportation from KSU Center (3333 Busbee Drive, Kennesaw, GA 30144). Advance registration is required.
