KSU Professor Arrested; Campus Carry Passes Georgia Legislature

The professor was arrested for carrying a sign protesting the bill into the Senate gallery.

ATLANTA, GA -- A Kennesaw State University professor was arrested Friday at the state capitol for displaying a sign in the Senate gallery.

The woman's sign was protesting HB 859, the controversial campus carry bill that passed the Senate later Friday afternoon and is now on its way to Gov. Nathan Deal.

Police say signs are prohibited in some areas of the state capitol. The woman reportedly resisted when police tried to take her sign away, reports the AJC. She was eventually taken to the ground and arrested, and charged with obstruction and disruption.

HB 859 would allow concealed firearms to be carried into certain places on public college campuses. The bill would not allow concealed weapons to be carried into athletic venues, student housing or fraternity or sorority buildings. The bill only applies to individuals 21 and over and who have a weapons license.

Last month, the state House approved the measure.
