KSU to Return to Normal Operations in Fall 2021
It has been one full year since the COVID-19 pandemic changed our lives. We have learned
a lot in the past year, most importantly that our community is strong, resilient and
that by working together, we can accomplish great things.

From the outset, our faculty have demonstrated their dedication to providing our students
with a world-class education by quickly and creatively implementing remote and hybrid
instruction. Our staff showed their commitment by tackling the day-to-day needs of
the University and ensuring that the resources needed by the campus community were
accessible and effective. And, of course, our students responded to these unprecedented
challenges with perseverance and the determination that defines what it means to be
an Owl.
Looking ahead to summer, KSU will continue to offer more in-person courses for students
looking to get ahead, as well as the full complement of online offerings for summer
terms.

For Fall 2021, we are fully committed to a return to normal operations for academic
classes, on-campus residential life, athletics and the face-to-face engagement students
can count on as a part of their college experience. As has been the case for the last
year, the safety of our community is our number one priority, so we will continue
to monitor developments and follow the health and safety guidelines set forth by the
University System of Georgia, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the
Georgia Department of Public Health.
We have launched an array of strategic planning activities to successfully transition
back to a fully operational Fall 2021 semester. Our COVID planning task force teams
have now been repurposed to post-pandemic planning teams to prepare us to be an even
stronger university. We are assessing a broad array of issues to determine new opportunities
for enhanced services and educational outcomes through some of the solutions we implemented
for COVID. We are also assessing actions necessary to return to safe, productive and
vigorous campuses. Provost Kathy Schwaig and VP for Operations Tricia Chastain will
be hosting a series of campus-wide virtual meetings so you can share your ideas for
our successful transition to Fall 2021.
There is one thing we can all do now to ensure a complete return to normal operations
in the fall. We need to continue to combat the virus with masks and social distancing.
And, we need to take our place in line when it is our turn to receive a vaccine.
It has been a long journey, but the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter
each day. I am looking forward to the day when we celebrate our return to normalcy
and our KSU masks can become collector’s items.
