KSU’s Continuing Education Celebrates Students at Graduation
Students, representing more than 30 different programs, crossed the stage as family and friends joined in the celebration

The College of Continuing and Professional Education at Kennesaw State University held its graduation ceremony on December 14 at KSU Center. Students, representing more than 30 different programs, crossed the stage as family and friends joined in the celebration. Continuing Education Dean Barbara Calhoun delivered this year’s graduation address.
Strategic Initiatives Manager Karen Smith opened the ceremony and commended the graduates for their commitment to education and for successfully completing the requirements of their respective programs.
“This is a significant accomplishment to be proud of,” Smith said. “You have recognized the value of education and lifelong learning. We congratulate and offer you our best wishes for your continued success.”

Dean Calhoun’s address followed Smith’s opening remarks. She shared some notable life moments with the graduates, encouraging the students to seek opportunities for growth and improvement constantly.
“Invest in yourself on a regular basis, as often as you can,” Dean Calhoun said. “It is not only what you learn in books. It is meeting the people in your class. It is learning how people make decisions and then learning why they make those decisions. All of life is a learning experience.”

For Jomo “Sekou” Henderson, AutoCAD Essentials graduate, Dean Calhoun’s address resonated with his own experience. Henderson completed his Continuing Education certificate program while working toward his degree at Kennesaw State University.
“I wanted to maximize my education,” Henderson said. “I found employment as a result of the training, and I did this within weeks of program completion. The [program] has propelled my abilities in more ways than I had envisioned.”
As for the future, Henderson hopes to continue building his knowledge and exposure to the industry. He has already planned to take AutoCAD intermediate and AutoCAD Advanced in 2018.
