Lost Mountain Student Wins Presidential Service Award

Wright: Ava Wright (14), Lost Mountain Middle School student and Student Council President, has been honored with six volunteer service awards as part of the National Charity League (NCL), including the Gold President’s Volunteer Service Award for 100 or more hours of volunteer service in a year.

The President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) recognizes citizens of the United States who have achieved the required number of hours of service over a 12-month time period. Along with the ultimate honor of presidential recognition, recipients receive a personalized certificate, an official pin, medallion and a congratulatory letter from the president of the United States.

In addition to the PVSA, Ms. Wright was also honored by NCL for achieving the highest number of philanthropic service hours for her class (2022) and she received: the Hourglass award for 100 combined hours of philanthropic service; the Mission Bell award for volunteering 50 hours to one charity (Leukemia and Lymphoma Society); the Silver award for volunteering 25 hours to one charity (Hunger Doesn’t Take a Break); and the Mother/Daughter award given mother/daughter teams within the chapter who earn 40 philanthropic service hours together.

All award hours are measured over a 12-month period and designated based on cumulative hours.͞I really enjoy giving my time to charities where I can work face to face with those that are in need. We have so many of these amazing organizations in our community and that’s what makes our area so special. I am extremely honored to receive the Gold President’s Volunteer Service Award and I look forward to continuing my volunteer efforts through high school,͟ said Ms. Wright.

Ms. Wright will be an incoming freshman at Harrison High School this fall, where she has been accepted into its bioengineering STEM program. She was also recently accepted into and will attend the Naval Academy’s STEM program.
