Non-Profit Groups Help Mostly Mutts Save More Animals

Mostly Mutts Animal Rescue gets help from homeless outreach group and benefits from Silver Comet Trail cycling fundraiser on Sept 10

Wandering to Nourish Atlanta is a grass roots non-profit that, with the help of volunteers, takes food, clothing and hygiene products to Atlanta’s homeless once a month – calling it a “Wander.” Five months ago they reached out to Mostly Mutts and offered to take the rescue dogs on a hike at Kennesaw Mountain. The Mutts loved the exercise and time away from the shelter, and the group enjoyed the activity so much it has turned into a regularly scheduled monthly outing. “Walking these rescue dogs and telling everyone we meet on the trails about the lifesaving work Mostly Mutts is doing is a truly uplifting activity for our volunteers” said Jesse Ray Cash, Director of Operations at Wandering to Nourish Atlanta. Operation For The Love of Dog has teamed up with Mostly Mutts Animal Rescue and is looking for cycling enthusiasts to join the 5th Annual Charity Bike Ride that will take place on the Silver Comet Trail on September 10. All the proceeds from this event will be donated to Mostly Mutts Animal Rescue in support of the organization’s efforts to save animals from being euthanized at local shelters. Riders need to register in advance, and detailed information is available at http://www.ofortheloveofdog.org. The annual charity bike ride is the result of one individual’s experience with his rescue dog Sampson, who was saved moments before being euthanized and became a treasured and beloved companion dog.

“We are very fortunate to have support from different groups in the community who understand the importance of the work we do” said Tammy Turley, Executive Director of Mostly Mutts. “We are hoping for a good turnout for the charity bike ride and encourage you to sign up with your friends and family. We also invite you to attend our first Foster Open House on Sunday, August 28 from 2-4 pm to find out more about becoming a Mostly Mutts Foster Family.”

Mostly Mutts strives to reduce the number of animals euthanized at local shelters in Metro Atlanta by working with animal control officers to save adoptable dogs that are moments away from being put to sleep. Often, these dogs are sick, injured and require rehabilitation. Mostly Mutts provides housing, health care, training, and physical and emotional care to these rescued animals until they can be placed in a new “furever home.” Since 2004, Mostly Mutts has saved approximately 6,000 animals.

Mostly Mutts is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization, licensed by the Dept. of Agriculture and staffed by volunteers. It is privately funded through donations and adoption fees.
