Poppin' Tags: How to Have a Successful "Thrifting" Experience

As someone who's wardrobe is almost entirely composed of thrift store finds, I've learned my fair share of tricks along the way about how to have the best time, while also finding the best deals. Hopefully some of the tips I've picked up will help to make your thrift shopping trip fun and successful.

Tip 1: Know what you're looking for.
Know what you're looking for before you go to the store. Going to the store without knowing your limits can put a serious dent in your wallet and leave you with lots of pieces you'll never wear.

Tip 2: Be prepared to have to go to several stores.
Thrift stores don't have multiples of each clothing item like retail stores do. Therefore, you might have to visit a store or two before you find something. Patience is key!

Tip 3: Map out your route.
To help you save time during your shopping trip, plan where you're going in advance. This can also help you figure out which route between the stores will take you the shortest amount of time. This is especially helpful for those thrifters with little ones.

Tip 4: Bring snacks with you.
This is one tip everyone can benefit from. Always make sure everyone in your crew eats before your outing and bring snacks along to curb hunger until your shopping is done. Crackers or trail mix is always an easy, yummy solution, as you want something that is going to be okay staying in the car while you do your shopping.

Tip  5: Narrow it down
I saved this tip for last because I feel it's the most important of all. It's important to be realistic when deciding what to purchase and what to leave behind at the store. Here's some tips and questions to ask yourself to make the decision easier:

-Can I wear it in the next two months?
-Is it missing any hardware (i.e. buttons, zipper pulls, etc..)?
-Do I own other pieces that look similar to it?
-Do I have a top/bottoms to wear with it?
-Check the inside of all garments to check for tears/holes in the lining.
-Are there any noticeable stains or defects on the exterior of the garment?

Hopefully these tips will be helpful to finding you exactly what you're looking for!
