ABC's '20/20' To Feature Nique Leili Murder Case

Leili's husband, Matthew, was found guilty of murder on February 5.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA -- Friday night’s episode of ABC’s investigative series “20/20” will feature the story of the murder of Nique Leili, of Lawrenceville.

In promotional material for the episode, ABC suggests that the show, which airs at 10 p.m. ET, will focus on the dramatic nature of the many twists and turns that occurred in the nearly five years between Leili‘s death and the murder conviction of her husband, Matthew Leili, on February 5.

Nique Leili’s body was found on July 16, 2011, under a pile of leaves near the entrance to the Sidney Cove subdivision where she had lived.

From the start, police suspected her husband. But murder charges against him didn’t come until last year, after authorities say they reexamined evidence from a seized computer.

Even at trial, prosecutors were not able to offer a definitive theory on how Matthew killed Nique, although a medical examiner said multiple factors suggested strangulation.

Evidence at the trial suggested that after a tumultuous relationship, during which Matthew Leili installed 21 surveillance cameras around their home and made audio recordings of their arguments, Nique Leili had decided to leave Matthew, angering him.
