Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., ® Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter Hosts

Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter (UAO) hosted its 12th Biennial hybrid Debutante Cotillion and Scholarship Ball on Saturday, March 19th at the Gas South Arena. The theme was "Prelude to a Vision Fair." The cotillion is arguably the premier event for high school junior and senior girls in the Metro Atlanta area. The scholarship ball was the culminating event after months of educational and leadership development workshops, waltz dance rehearsals, cultural & community service activities, and bonding activities that positively reinforced critical self-esteem principles that will last a lifetime.

Thirty-three stellar debutantes made their debut into society, alongside thirty-three junior escorts and twenty sub-debutantes. Rian Thompkins, a senior at Capstone Academy, was crowned Miss Debutante 2022. Ashton Maxwell, a senior at North Gwinnett High School was First Runner-up. Kayden Skeete, a senior at Atlanta International School, was Second Runner-up. One of the goals of the cotillion is to raise money for academic scholarships to support young women attending colleges and universities. Ninety-eight percent (98%) of the previous debutantes have entered colleges and universities pursuing baccalaureate degrees. UAO, the first African American Greek letter organization in Gwinnett County, has made a significant impact on the community with regards to educational enrichment. Upsilon Alpha Omega has awarded over $400,000 in scholarships to graduating high school seniors.

About Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter

On January 29, 1994, thirty aspiring professional women chartered the Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The group gathered to implement and support the international programs of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated as they pertain to the needs of Gwinnett County, Georgia. Today, Upsilon Alpha Omega, the first African-American Greek-letter organization in Gwinnett County is 400+ members strong and has made a significant impact on the community.
