Fire crews worked quickly and were able to keep the flames from spreading to the main part of the house. The carport sustained moderate damage.

"The potential was certainly there for flames to spread inside the house and endanger occupants," said Gwinnett County Fire Capt.Tommy Rutledge.

Investigators were still working Tuesday morning to identify the arsonist and determine a motive in the case. Some details about the fire were not released due to the ongoing investigation.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact the Gwinnett Fire Investigations Section at 678-518-4890 or the Georgia Arson Control Hotline at 1-800-282-5804.

Georgia Arson Control offers a reward up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of people responsible for arson. Tips may also be made anonymously.

"The persons responsible will likely face multiple charges," Rutledge said.
