Bobcat Operator Escapes After Equipment Plummets into Hole
The man suffered minor injuries in the accident at a Lawrenceville Highway construction site.

A bobcat operator suffered minor injuries Monday morning after the machinery fell into a large hole at a Lawrenceville Highway construction site.
The accident occurred near the Walmart location at 4004 Lawrenceville Highway around 11 a.m.

“A construction crew was working on an underground plumbing repair when the bobcat they were using plummeted into an approximate 15-foot hole dug underneath the sidewalk,” Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said in a news release.
The operator was able to free himself and was found kneeling on the bobcat inside the hole when firefighters arrived.

“He was moving around in the hole. Firefighters placed a ground ladder in the hole and the man climbed out on his own,” Rutledge said. In an earlier email, Rutledge said the man appeared to have minor injuries.
The man was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center.
The scene was turned over to OSHA for further investigation.
No other injuries were reported.
