Chimney Fire Damages Lawrenceville Home
The fire started in the family's fireplace, emergency officials say.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — A fire that apparently started in a Lawrenceville family's fireplace damaged their home Saturday evening.
Firefighters responded at 6:44 p.m. to an occupant's report of a house fire in the 2400 block of Cedar Drive NE in Lawrenceville.
Crews found flames coming from the top of the chimney of the split-level house. They deployed attack hose lines and entered the home to fight the fire.

They were able to contain the flames to the chimney and exterior wall. The fire was brought under control by 6:55 p.m.
The fire caused moderate damage to the chimney and there was slight smoke and water damage inside the main living space.

Gwinnett County Fire & Emergency Services says the blaze was sparked by a fire in the fireplace that got out of control and ran up the chimney case.
The family is temporarily displaced from the home and was planning to stay at a nearby hotel, fire officials said.
