The number of people casting an early ballot in the county will "significantly exceed" the record number from 2008.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — The number of people voting early in Gwinnett County for the presidential election is on pace to break a record.

According to Sorenson, that puts the county on track to "significantly exceed" the 88,798 people who voted early in 2008.
Gwinnett County also has issued 20,108 absentee ballots. Of those, 10,453 had been returned by Monday, Sorenson said.

Early voting started October 17 in Gwinnett and was marked by long lines and hours-long waits during the first few days.
Saturday was the first day that Gwinnett's full compliment of eight early-voting polling places was open.
Sorenson said wait times were running between 40 minutes and an hours at those polls on Monday.
