Elderly Couple Killed in Crash with 17-Year-Old

The teen driver faces multiple charges in the deaths of James Turner, 83, and Frankie Turner, 80.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA -- A teen driver faces multiple charges after a Saturday car crash that killed a Gwinnett County couple in their 80's.

James Turner, 83, and Frankie Turner, 80, both of Norcross, died from injuries they sustained when their car was hit by 17-year-old Alen Beganovic, of Lawrenceville, Gwinnett County Police said.

According to a police investigation, Beganovic was traveling south on McKendree Church Road near Lawrenceville on Saturday in a yellow Scion. He swerved to avoid a vehicle that was stopped at a stop sign, drove through the stop sign and traveled across five lanes of traffic before striking the grey Chevy Impala being driven by Frankie Turner.

He struck the driver's side door of the Impala, driving it across two lanes and onto a curb.

Emergency responders arrived to find Frankie Turner unresponsive. Her husband, James, was conscious, but seriously injured.

Both were taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville. James Turner died several hours later and, on Sunday, Frankie Turner died as well.

Baganovic had minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

He was arrested and faces charges including vehicular homicide, reckless driving, failure to obey stop sign, failure to and failure to maintain lane.

He also faces a charge of serious injury by vehicle that likely will be thrown out and replaced with a second count of vehicular homicide, police said. Beganovic was bonded out of jail Saturday shortly before midnight, and before Frankie Turner's death.
