Family Seeks Help for Boy, 14, Injured in Car Crash

His uncle has set up a GoFundMe page as Matthew Robison begins a long recovery.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — A single mom from Lawrenceville is devoting herself these days to helping her 14-year-old son recover from a devastating car crash. And her brother is reaching out to the public for help

Mike Sage-Robison has set up a GoFundMe page for his sister, Laurie Robison, and her son Matthew, 14. On Sept. 24, Matthew suffered near-fatal injuries in an automobile accident.

"After multiple brain surgeries and a long stay at the Children's Hospital of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, we are incredibly grateful Matthew is on the road to recovery," wrote Sage-Robison, who lives in Bethel, Conn.

But Matthew is only at the beginning of a long and expensive rehabilitation process. He has lingering injuries, including the loss of sight in one eye and fractured vertebrae in his spine. Laurie had to take an unpaid leave of absence from her job as a social worker with Georgia Baptist Children's Homes & Family Ministries Inc.

"Of course, our family is helping as much as we can, but even with health insurance, the hospital bills have piled up at an astronomical rate," Sage-Robison wrote on the page.

The money raised is going directly to Laurie to help her pay Matthew's medical bills and cover other expenses. It was set up on Wednesday, Oct. 19, and as of 5 p.m. Friday, it had raised $4,275.
