Firefighters Contain Lawrenceville Bedroom Fire

Officials believe the fire, on Thornbush Trace, may have been started by a space heater.

Lawrenceville, GA -- Gwinnett firefighters quickly controlled a bedroom fire in Lawrenceville on Monday.

Fire officials believe the blaze, at a home on the 100 block of Thornbush Trace SW, may be been caused by an electrical short in a portable space heater in the second-floor bedroom.

Flames ignited the carpet and burned a three or four foot patch around the space heater, according to the Gwinnett County Department of Fire & Emergency Services.

Occupants were home at the time of the fire and alerted by a fire alarm. They unsuccessfully attempted to put the flames out with water before calling for help.

Firefighters responded to the fire at 10:03 a.m. and had the flames under control by 10:15 a.m.
