Grandfather Rescued From Creek By Gwinnett Police

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA -- An 82-year-old grandfather in Lawrenceville was rescued Sunday after police say he got stuck in a large, deep creek.

Shortly before noon on Sunday, Gwinnett County Police were called to 1750 Green Oak Circle in unincorporated Lawrenceville with reports of a missing person.

When they arrived, they met the granddaughter of Sigun Yan, who was missing.

She told them he was last seen around 8:30 a.m. and that he has trouble walking, often using either a wheelchair or cane.

Several officers were deployed to search for the missing man and, after about 10 minutes, he was located.

Yan "was located behind the house in a large deep creek lying on a downed tree and was unable to get himself out," according to a news release.

Officers, as shown in the video above, were able to get him out of the creek and carry him to safety. Remarkably, he was not injured.

In the news release, Gwinnett Police advised people caring for elderly parents or grandparents to consider purchasing audible alarms for their exterior doors to act as a warning signal if that older person leaves home unannounced.
