Gwinnett Firefighters Kept Busy With Overnight Calls
Apartment, structure and home fires were reported between 10:50 p.m. Feb. 5 and 1:18 a.m. Feb. 6.
Gwinnett County firefighters were kept busy with late night and early morning fire calls, spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutledge said.
In an early morning email, Rutledge reported the following from Feb.5 and 6:

APARTMENT FIRE:
Firefighters responded on February 5, 2015 at 10:50 p.m. to a report of an apartment fire in the 3300 block of Fairway Oaks Drive, NW in Lawrenceville. Crews found a smoldering fire on the exterior of a multi-story townhome building on arrival. The fire was quickly doused by bystanders before fire crews arrived. Firefighters deployed a single attack line to complete extinguishment and check for extension. The fire caused moderate cosmetic damage to the exterior wall and a top floor window. There was no extension inside the building. Firefighters had to pull part of the siding material and sheetrock to put the fire completely out. The exact cause of the fire is currently undetermined and is under investigation. The Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance for 3-adults and 2 children displaced by the damage. There were no injuries reported.

STRUCTURE FIRE:
Firefighters responded on February 5, 2016 at 11:43 p.m. to an occupant report of an outbuilding fire behind a house in the 1100 block of Mealor Road, NE in Lawrenceville. Crews found the structure fully involved on arrival with immediate exposure to the main house. Crews had to fight the fire from outside the structure to control the blaze and protect exposures. Firefighters worked fast and kept the flames from spreading to the house. The outbuilding was a total loss. The exact cause of the fire is currently undetermined and is under active investigation. There were no injuries reported.

HOUSE FIRE:
Firefighters responded on February 6, 2015 at 1:18 a.m. to a report of a house fire in the 480 block of Georgian Hills Drive, SE in Lawrenceville. Crews arrived to find the garage and two vehicles engulfed in flames. Firefighters quickly deployed attack lines to extinguish the fire and entered to structure to conduct a primary search. Fire crews made a good stop on the fire and held it to the garage area and the two vehicles . The blaze sent significant smoke and heat throughout the house. Two elderly occupants (man and wife) were home at the time of the fire and escaped unharmed with their dog. They were alerted to the fire by the dog barking and discovered the garage ablaze. The man was evaluated at the scene for a medical condition unrelated to the fire. He was transported by ambulance to Gwinnett Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment. Per investigators, the fire appears accidental and originated in the garage. The exact cause is under investigation.
