Gwinnett High School Ranked Number One in Georgia

See which Gwinnett school topped the Georgia rankings on the 2016 U.S. News and World Report list.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA -- Gwinnett School of Science, Mathematics and Technology is the No. 1 high school in Georgia.

That's according to the 2016 U.S. News and World Report ranking of 21,000 public high schools across the country.

The Lawrenceville school, ranked No. 27 in the nation, was one of seven metro Atlanta high schools that made the list of top 10 high schools in Georgia, according to U.S. News.

It was one of two Gwinnett County schools to crack the top 10. North Gwinnett High School, in Suwanee, was listed at No. 8.

A charter school created in 2006, the School of Science, Mathematics and Technology was based on research of national models of math and science-focused secondary schools.

The U.S. News rankings note its 18-to-1 student-teacher ratio and gives it a college-readiness index score of 96.5 out of 100.

"Students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement coursework and exams. The AP participation rate at Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology is 100 percent. The student body makeup is 57 percent male and 43 percent female, and the total minority enrollment is 80 percent," the report reads.

Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology is 1 of 23 high schools in the Gwinnett County school system.
