Gwinnett House Fire Started Near Makeshift Stove in Garage
No one was injured in the Wednesday afternoon blaze near Lawrenceville.

A fire that likely originated near a makeshift stove in the garage caused heavy damage to a Lawrenceville-area home Wednesday afternoon.
No one was injured in the fire, though eight people (six adults, two children) were displaced and planning to stay with other family members, according to a Gwinnett Fire news release.
The fire happened just past noon in the 1190 block of Meadow Perch Court, in unincorporated Lawrenceville.

The garage and a parked vehicle were engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at 12:20 p.m. Six people were at home at the time. One of them tried to douse the fire with a garden hose.
The fire was under control at 12:52 p.m., the news release stated. The fire caused heavy damage to the garage and the second floor directly above it.

Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said investigators believe the fire was accidentally started after a burner on the stove was left on. The residents were alerted by a noise in the garage and the smell of smoke.
