Gwinnett Jury Convicts Man Who Robbed Store with BB Gun

Tyone Sentrail Davis was found guilty of robbing a Gwinnett gift store in 2013, the district attorney's office said.

A Lawrenceville man, who apparently used a BB gun to hold up a gift store in 2013, was found guilty of the crime last week by a Gwinnett County jury.

Tyone Sentrail Davis, who had five previous felony convictions on his record, was found guilty of armed robbery and aggravated assault on June 18, the county district attorney’s office said in a news release Monday.

It was a re-trial of the Oct. 7, 2013 crime after a trial in March resulted in a hung jury (by a 10-2 vote), the agency said.

Davis was convicted of robbing Jen’s Halmark near Lawrenceville, where he was accused of pulling out what employees believed was a semi-automatic gun and robbing the store of around $200, the DA’s Office said.

Prosecutors said Davis went to the store located near Ga. 316, saying he was looking to buy a gift for a friend. After a half-hour in the store, he reportedly tried to purchase an item with two credits, including a Blue Chase card that was found later, but both were denied. He then pulled out the gun, threatened two employees and robbed the store. He fled in a vehicle that was found to be owned by his girlfriend’s mother, prosecutors said.

Investigators checked the girlfriend’s Facebook page, where they found a photo of the suspect. He was identified as the robber by one of the employees in a photo lineup.

Police tracked down Davis at a Duluth motel, where they found a BB gun resembling the crime weapon tucked underneath a mattress. Also found was the Blue Chase credit card and a white “do-rag” that matched what employees said he was wearing during the robbery.

In court, two employees identified Davis as the perpetrator, the district attorney’s office said.

Davis is scheduled to be sentenced on July 8.
