Gwinnett Man Convicted of Child Molestation

Jorge Desantos met his victim at church, prosecutors say.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA -- It took a jury just 30 minutes last week to convict a Gwinnett County man of multiple counts of child molestation.

Jorge Alberto Desantos, 45, was found guilty on Friday of one count of child molestation and two counts of aggravated child molestation.

Evidence presented at the week-long trial showed that, between November 2013 and January 2014, Desantos molested a boy who was 11 years old at the time.

The victim, who lived with his grandparents and did not have a father figure in his life, met Desantos at church and the two started bonding, prosecutors said.

The victim's grandmother would allow Desantos to take her grandson to the mall to purchase expensive items, including Air Jordan shoes and new clothes. After trips to the mall, Desantos would take the boy to his home, where he touched and orally sodomized him, evidence showed.

When police confronted him, Desantos said the boy had never been to his home. But prosecutors showed that the victim was able to draw diagrams that closely matched the layout of Desantos's home.

Desantos was found guilty of all charges against him. Sentencing will take place at a later date.
