Gwinnett Police To Host 'Prayer Vigil For Peace'

The event will be at the Fallen Hero Memorial at 75 Langley Dr. in Lawrenceville.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA -- A prayer vigil for peace with members of Gwinnett County's law-enforcement community has been set for Friday evening.

Organized by retired Gwinnett County Police Maj. Jonathan "Keybo" Taylor, the vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at the Fallen Hero Memorial, at 75 Langley Dr. in Lawrenceville.

Members and supporters of city police forces, Gwinnett Police and the sheriff's department are invited to attend.

Speakers will include Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Charlotte Nash.

The Friday vigil will be the second public rally announced in Gwinnett County in the wake of the Dallas police shootings and a string of officer-involved shootings of young black men that garnered national attention.

In Snellville, the city is hosting what's being billed as "a night of healing" at 7 p.m. Thursday on the Towne Green at city hall.

"This is in direct response to the tragedies of the past week," said city Councilman Bobby Howard, who organized the event. "My heart hurts for our entire country. So, let's begin in our own home town."
