Gwinnett Schools Listed Among America's Most Challenging Schools

Several Gwinnett County high schools have been named to a list of institutions that challenge their students to excel.

In all, 20 county public schools were named to the America's Most Challenging High Schools list published by The Washington Post.

Gwinnett School of Math, Science & Tech in Lawrenceville was the county’s and state’s highest ranked school — at No. 17 out of the 1,900 schools listed.

The index formula used for the rankings measures public and private high schools’ ability to challenge their students. A school’s ranking is determined by dividing the number of college-level tests given by a school to all its students by the number of graduates for that year.

Only 9 percent of the roughly 22,000 public high schools nationwide earned placement on the 2014 list.
