Gwinnett Tilted Kilt Fails Restaurant Inspection

The pub had a black substance growing in the ice machine, pesticides not approved for restaurants were found and washed plates were dirty.

SUWANEE, GA — A Gwinnett County location of a chain of pubs known for their servers' skimpy skirts failed its health inspection this week.

The Tilted Kilt, at 1500 Satellite Blvd. in Suwanee, scored a 67/U on the inspection. It had last been inspected twice in August of last year, when it scored a 73/C, then a 96/A a week later.

According to the report, the person in charge on Tuesday didn't know basic food-safety information. A "black like buildup" was found on the pub's ice machine and multiple supposedly clean dishes were found with food debris on them.

Food that was supposed to be in cold storage was found to be above the recommended 41 degrees, a dicer had "heavy buildup" on it and Raid and Roundup pesticides were found in the restaurants. Those pesticides are not approved for restaurant use, according to the report.

Foods like oils, spices and flour were not labeled, a waste pipe was disconnected at a hand-washing sink and there was dirt built up behind a dishwasher.

The inspection report also noted that the certified food safety manager at the restaurant had quit working at the store two weeks ago. Another person certified in food safety must be hired within 60 days of that person leaving.

According to state law, a follow-up inspection will be conducted in the next 10 days. If the Tilted Kilt once again scores a failing grade, the restaurant's food service permit could be suspended by inspectors.
