Hurricane Irma: Gwinnett Schools Make Decision About Classes
The impact of Irma, which has been downgraded to a tropical storm, is now being unleashed across metro Atlanta.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA -- The Gwinnett County Public School System has announced it will cancel classes and keep its offices closed on Tuesday, Sept. 12 due to the inclement weather Tropical Storm Irma is dumping onto the Peach State.
The system, which cancelled classes for Monday, made the announcement right around the time the winds and rainfall picked up across metro Atlanta. The National Weather Service is warning residents to expect increased winds and rain to blanket the area as well as North and Central Georgia throughout the day and well into the evening.
Wind gusts ranging from 45 to 65 mph are possible across most of the area, as are widespread power outages and downed trees, "which could be blown onto power lines, road, structures and vehicles," the agency added in its noon briefing.
