Lanes, Exits On I-85 In Gwinnett To Be Closed

The nighttime closures by the state Department of Transportation are for projects to build new toll lanes and install new signs.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — A pair of construction projects will see some lanes and exits of Interstate 85 in Gwinnett County closed during upcoming nights.

Starting Wednesday at 9 p.m., Georgia Department of Transportation crews will close I-85's northbound exit ramp and southbound entrance ramp at Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road (S.R. 317). The closures will occur nightly through Tuesday, Oct. 10, and will last from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. on those days.

Separately, a project that started on Sunday will see the two far-right lanes on part of I-85 in Gwinnett closed most nights through the end of November.

The closures will impact both northbound and southbound lanes between Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road. They will happen from 10 p.m.-5 a.m. on Sundays through Thursday.

The lane closures are part of a project to remove and install new interstate signs. Crews will be working on one side of I-85 at a time.

In both cases, the Department of Transportation urges motorists to go slow and use caution in work zones.
