Lawrenceville Fire Damages Duplex Apartment
Fire officials say the blaze likely started because of food left cooking on the stove.
LAWRENCEVILE, GA — A cooking fire on Thursday caused damage to a duplex apartment in Lawrenceville, safety officials say.
Firefighters responded at about 11:12 a.m. to an occupant's report of the fire in the 200 block of Forest Place, SW. The caller reported flames and smoke coming from the kitchen. Firefighters had the blaze under control by 11:36 a.m.
Investigators said the fire appears accidental and was sparked by food left unattended cooking on the stove. Flames caused extensive damage to the kitchen and dining room area.

There was also smoke and heat damage throughout the duplex unit. The occupant who reported the fire was able to escape safely and there was no one injured in the blaze.
