Lawrenceville Police Are Getting Body Cameras

The cameras will be bought with funds seized in criminal cases.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — Police officers in Lawrenceville, and the people with whom they interact, are about to have an extra set of eyes on them.

Lawrenceville's city council voted this week to outfit the police department's officers with body-worn cameras.

The 75 cameras, along with 9 in-car cameras, will be paid for with money seized during criminal cases.

"It is important to us that our Lawrenceville Police Department is equipped with the appropriate technology to effectively protect and serve our community,” said City Manager Chuck Warbington in a news release. "We are eager to repurpose these seized funds for the benefit of our businesses, residents, and visitors alike."

Body-worn cameras are designed to create and preserve evidence in criminal cases as well as providing an accurate account of the actions of on-duty police officers.
