Lawrenceville Teen Hit By Train, Loses Feet

He was lying on the ground with his feet draped over the rail, Lilburn Police say

LILBURN, GA β€” A 17-year-old from Lawrenceville lost both of his feet after being struck by a train in Lilburn on Thursday.

Lilburn Police say Jacob Ohl was lying on the ground near Shelly Lane with his feet draped over the rail at about 1 p.m. when he was hit by a northbound CSX train.

Ohl was able to call 911 and the responding officers were able to apply tourniquets to both of his legs.

"Paramedics on scene said that the tourniquets very likely saved his life and kept him from bleeding out," police Capt. Thomas Bardugon said.

Ohl was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center where he was listed in stable condition.

The Lilburn Police Department and CSX are continuing to investigate the incident.
