Man Severely Injured In Gwinnett House Fire

Fire officials call the man's injuries life threatening and say he was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment.

BUFORD, GA — A Gwinnett County man suffered life-threatening injuries Sunday when a fire engulfed much of his home.

Firefighters were called at 11:34 a.m. to the home on the 2400 block of Luke Court in the Buford area. A 911 caller had reported seeing flames coming from the house.

Crews arrived to find the house burning and a man sitting outside with injuries from the fire. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta with what fire officials called life-threatening burns.

There was no one else inside the home at the time, according to Gwinnett Fire & Emergency Services spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutledge. Firefighters, however, found three dogs dead inside the house.

A fourth dog survived and was outside the home. It was reunited with a family member at the scene, Rutledge said.

Firefighters were able to get the fire under control by shortly after noon. They had to attack the fire with hoses from outside before going in and searching for victims.

Rutledge said the cause of the fire remained under investigation. Authorities were not releasing the name of the man injured in the blaze Monday morning.
