Man Tasered After DUI Arrest On a Moped

Gwinnett County Police say Brandon Ramon Brown, of Lawrenceville, resisted arrest.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA β€” Police tasered a Lawrenceville man for resisting arrest after he was stopped for allegedly driving a moped under the influence on Sugarloaf Parkway.

Brandon Ramon Brown was arrested Saturday and faces charges that include driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and obstructing police officers.

According to a Gwinnett County Police report, Brown was spotted by an officer driving his moped, which had no tag, in the area of Sugarloaf Parkway and Atkinson Road.

The officer said Brown could be seen weaving in his lane and at one point was driving on the wrong side of the road, almost striking the opposite curb.

When he was pulled over, Brown smelled of alcohol and his eyes were watery and bloodshot, according to police. Brown told officers he'd had two beers, according to the report.

Brown then had trouble following instructions during a field sobriety test, police said, and he ultimately told the he did not want to continue with the test.

He also refused to blow into an alcohol sensor, police said.

When officers tried to place him under arrested, Brown refused to put his hands behind his back and repeatedly flexed his arms to prevent officers from handcuffing him, according to police.

Eventually he was placed on the ground, where he continued resisting and refusing verbal commands, and an officer deployed a taser to subdue him, the report said.

Brown was taken to the Gwinnett County Detention Center and his moped was released to his wife, who had arrived at the scene.
