A man threw a brick into the windshield of a parked Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office patrol car and tried to punch officers, police said.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA β€” A man threw a brick into the windshield of a parked Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office patrol car Jan. 31, reported police.

A deputy was working an off-duty job in Buford, as a jewelry store security guard, and parked his patrol car outside the business. While working inside the store, the deputy heard a loud crashing noise and looked out the window to see his windshield had been shattered by a brick, which was laying on the car.

The deputy saw the man walking away and immediately put out an alert with his description to the Gwinnett County police. Police identified the man as Christian Elijah May. Once located, May refused to stop when told to by deputies.

During May's arrest, he swung at the responding officers several times, trying to punch them, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Shannon Volkodav. "Then, once he was in the patrol car, he tried to kick out the back windshield."

"He was obviously a very violent suspect," said Volkodav. "It's fortunate nobody got hurt."
