Memorial Services Planned For Football Player Who Collapsed
Nicholas "Nick" Blakely, who went to Archer High School, collapsed and died during football practice at Stetson University on Monday.

ATLANTA, GA — Memorial services in Georgia and Florida have been scheduled for a former Archer High School student-athlete who collapsed and died Monday during football practice at his Florida college.
A service honoring the life of Nicholas "Nick" Blakely, 19, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at Stetson University, in DeLand, Fla. It will be held in Lee Chapel at Elizabeth Hall, located at 421 N. Woodland Blvd. in DeLand.
Blakely, a sophomore accounting major and redshirt freshman on the Stetson football team, collapsed on the sidelines after practice on Monday. His father and some other family members will be in attendance at the Stetson service.

In Georgia, funeral arrangements for Blakely are being handled by Gregory B. Levett & Sons in Lawrenceville. According to a Stetson University spokeswoman, his family is planning a funeral service for him on Wednesday, Sept. 6.
No further details about the Wednesday service were available as of Thursday morning.

According to Stetson officials, Blakely complained of not feeling well, then collapsed on Monday. He was transported to Florida Hospital DeLand where he was later pronounced dead.
Blakely, 19, was an academic sophomore and accounting major at the school and played his high school ball at Archer High School in Lawrenceville. There, he was a three-year letterman, helping lead Archer to a 33-7 record in those three seasons, and also ran track.
