Mom Of Gwinnett Boy Mauled By Dog Has Stroke At Hospital, Dies

Tracy Dowdy Fain had taken her 7-year-old son Ethan to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston to get stitches out of his ear.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — The mom of a 7-year-old Gwinnett County boy who was mauled by a dog several months ago had a stroke while at the hospital getting him treated and has since died.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Tracy Dowdy Fain, mother of Ethan Fain, has died. According to her daughter, Jessica Dowdy, Fain had taken Ethan to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston last Monday to have stitches removed from his ear.

While there, Tracy suffered a stroke brought on by a severe brain aneurysm, Dowdy wrote on a GoFundMe campaign page for her sister.

She lost consciousness in the hospital lobby and was rushed to Emory University Hospital for emergency surgery to relieve pressure on the brain and stop bleeding from the aneurysm, Dowdy said.

Fain was placed in a medically induced coma and her condition never improved. On Monday, doctors informed the family that she was likely brain dead, the AJC reported.

On Christmas Eve, Ethan Fain was attacked by a neighbor's dog while at his grandmother's house. The AJC reports that doctors have been working to restore the boy's ear after it was shredded in the attack.

As of late Tuesday night, the family had not told the boy that his mother was dead, Dowdy told the paper.

"All he knows is mommy is sick and the doctors are trying to make her better like they made him better," she said.
