Mom Leads Kids Out Of Gwinnett House Fire

The Lawrenceville home's kitchen and living room sustained significant damage, fire officials said.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — A Gwinnett County mother's quick thinking is being credited with getting her family out of what could have been a deadly house fire this weekend.

The units found a fire on the rear porch and kitchen of a split-level home. By the time they arrived, all occupants of the home were outside and accounted for.

In a news release, fire officials say the woman who lived in the home heard popping sounds and discovered the fire in the kitchen. When fire alarms sounded, the family was already leaving the home.

"Due to the quick thinking of the adult occupant to alert her children, everyone was able to exit the home without injury," said Gwinnett Fire Deputy Chief Charles Wells.

The cause of the fire has been ruled to be accidental.
