Police ID Woman Killed In Fiery, 8-Vehicle Crash

Lawrenceville Police are still investigating the cause of the massive wreck, which happened on Ga. 316 Monday afternoon.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — Police have identified the woman killed Monday in a fiery, eight-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer in Lawrenceville.

Eva Jones Wilkerson, 61, of Winder, was driving a 2011 Toyota Corolla that police say was trapped beneath the tractor-trailer and caught on fire.

The crash, which also injured 17 people, happened at about 3:45 p.m. Monday on Ga. 316 near Hi Hope Road. According to a Lawrenceville Police report, the exact cause of the wreck remains under investigation.

Those injured in the wreck were nine adults and eight children. The children's ages ranged from 10 to 17, according to the report.

In all, nine people were taken to the hospital, while the others were treated at the scene. Two adults were considered to be in critical condition.

Preliminary reports suggest traffic came to a stop on Hi Hope Road, but the tractor-trailer failed to stop. No charges had been filed in the incident as of Wednesday morning.

Wreckage from the crash blocked traffic on the eastbound lanes of Ga. 326 until about 9 p.m. Monday.
