A man who offered his services as a reading tutor has been convicted of molesting a police officers' 8-and 10-year-old daughters.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — A man who offered his services as a reading tutor has been convicted of molesting a police officers' 8-and 10-year-old daughters Thursday, after a three-day trial, according to the Gwinnett District Attorney's office.

Andrew Jamaal Nembhard has been convicted of two counts of child molestation and two counts of sexual battery after a June 2016 account by the two young girls in court. Sentencing will be at a later date.

On the afternoon of June 21, 2016, Nembhard came over to the victims’ home to tutor the family’s girls in reading. Nembhard and the 10-year-old were alone in the office for the tutoring session for about 30 minutes. When the 10 year old was done, she came out of the room and the 8-year-old went in. The 10-year-old girl immediately told her mother that Nembhard made her feel uncomfortable by touching her inappropriately. She said the defendant sat her in his lap and lifted her skirt and touched her vagina on top of her panties. She also said that Nembhard had rubbed her chest area.

The mother then called the girls’ father, a Dekalb county police officer, and the 10 year old told her father what had happened. The victims’ mother then went into the office to find the 8-years-old girl on the Nembhard’s lap, according to the DA's office. In order to not alarm Nembhard, she stalled Nembhard by saying the girls’ father was on the way home with money for his tutoring services.

Upon returning home, the girls’ father confirmed his 10-year-old daughter’s account. He then spoke to his 8- year-old daughter, who said the defendant had touched her vaginal area over her clothes and also touched her chest area and buttocks.

Gwinnett Police were then called and all parties went to the police department for statements. In forensic interviews, the girls disclosed the touching and said they were scared and uncomfortable and did not say anything at the time they were touched because they just wanted the tutoring session to end.

Nembhard did not testify at trial. The only defense presented was that the girls’ account of the incident in 2018 did not match their statements in 2016.
