Suspect Shot, Killed During Gwinnett Home Invasion

Police say three men kicked in a door and were entering the home when the homeowner opened fire with her handgun.

Gwinnett County Police are investigating the shooting death of a man who they say kicked in the front door of a home and was shot by the homeowner.

The incident happened shortly before 4 a.m. Friday at 3500 Spring Dr., an Atlanta address in unincorporated Gwinnett County.

The homeowner told police dispatchers that she and another man woke to the sounds of someone entering their home. She got a handgun and went to investigate the sounds, according to police.

She discovered at least three men coming through the front door and began firing, striking at least one suspect, who was hit in the torso and killed, police say.

At least one of the other men began exchanging gunfire with the homeowner as they ran away.

Police were questioning the woman and the man who was at home with her Friday morning, but no charges were expected against the homeowner, police said in a news release.

Police also are still working to identify the other two men who entered the home.

The name of the man killed is being withheld pending notification of family members, police said Friday.
