Teen Girl Freed, Man Arrested on Human Trafficking Charge

Police believe Tyler Summerour was grooming the 13-year-old girl for a life of prostitution at a Lawrenceville extended stay hotel.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA β€” A 13-year-old girl has been rescued and a Lawrenceville man is in jail after his arrest on human trafficking charges.

Police believe Tyler D. Summerour, 22, of Lawrenceville, was grooming the girl, who had run away from her home in Norcross, for prostitution.

According to a Gwinnett County Police Department report, officers were called on Thursday to a Taco Bell restaurant at Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Dawson Boulevard for what was believed to be a domestic dispute.

What they soon realized was that the fight was between Summerour and the 13-year-old girl's mother and brother, who had tracked him down and confronted him.

The mother told officers that Summerour had their daughter at an extended stay hotel, where he had been keeping her for about a week.

The responding officer wrote that he "contacted the special victims unit due to the family believing that the victim was used by the suspect for the purposes of prostitution."

Both Summerour and the girl were taking to police headquarters for questioning.

Summerour is being held without bond at Gwinnett County Jail on charges of human trafficking and interfering with custody.

Meanwhile, police detectives are investigating just how large the alleged trafficking operation may be and who else may be involved in it.
