Three In Gwinnett Arrested Trying To Steal Sports Cars

Police were called when a commercial driver discovered something strange going on and a security guard acting suspicious, police say.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — Two men and one juvenile were arrested Thursday for trying to steal sports cars from a Lawrenceville car lot.

Police are seeking at least two other suspects in the 3 a.m. robbery attempt, which happened at a vehicle-storage lot on Winder Highway.

Gwinnett County Police were called after a commercial vehicle driver arrived at the location to pick up a delivery and found no one at the guard shack. As he was waiting at the shack, police say, he saw two Chevrolet Camaros being driven toward him.

When they saw the commercial driver, the drivers of the Camaros turned around and drove back onto the lot. Soon afterward, police say, the security guard pulled up to the gate acting suspicious.

The commercial driver eventually called 911. When officers arrived, they spoke with the security guard — Terance Hampton, 22, of Dacula, who told them everything was fine.

Hampton's car was parked nearby and Alexandru Barna, 20, of Dacula, was inside.

When one of the officers pulled onto the property, he could see the two Camaros being driven into the parking lot. They stopped and multiple suspects got out and ran.

One of the suspects jumped over a barbed wire fence and into the woods. A K9 officer arrived on the scene and began searching the area.

After the K9 began searching, a juvenile male exited the woods and surrendered. At the conclusion of the on-scene investigation, it was determined that Hampton, Barna and the juvenile were involved in the attempt to steal the cars.

At least two other male suspects remain unidentified.

Hampton and Barna were arrested and transported to the Gwinnett County Jail. They have both been charged with Criminal Attempt To Commit a Crime. The juvenile was also charged and released to a parent.
