Tiny Christmas Tree May Have Caused Lawrenceville House Fire

Fire officials say the single-story home was gutted in the blaze.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA -- A miniature artificial Christmas tree may have been the cause of a fire that gutted a Lawrenceville home on Monday.

Gwinnett County firefighters responded to a call from a passerby to the 1700 block of Pine Circle at 5:11 p.m.

Crews saw a heavy column of smoke billowing from the house and, upon arrival, found the single-story, ranch style home “well-involved” in flames.

The flames caused heavy damage to the home and its contents, according to a news release. But the single female occupant of the home declined assistance from Red Cross, saying she’d be taken care of by nearby relatives.

Investigators say the fire appears to have been accidental and may have been sparked by a miniature decorative Christmas tree that was left on in the living room.
