Arcado Elementary Walks-N-Rolls to School

Despite the cold, more than 50 students walked or cycled to school during GA Walk to School Day, March 6. Walkers and bicyclists had a warm welcome at school by teachers and members of the PTA with prizes.  Then they signed their name to the “reducing our carbon pawprint” banner and pledged to walk 10 more times.  Arcado was highlighted by the Safe Routes To School program for their efforts to promote the event based on Education, Encouragement, Enforcement and Evaluation. Also for the first time this year, the event was combined with Clean Commute Week and the school’s Clean Air Program so students were also welcomed by the Better Air Bear.

Walk to School events raise awareness of the need to create safer routes for pedestrians and simultaneously address physical activity, traffic congestion, and concern for the environment. The event is organized by Arcado’s P.E. Teacher and PTA’s Wellness/Environmental Committee in partnership with the GA DOT Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program.
