Students, parents and neighbors braved the elements to support the 17th Annual Arcado Fun Run, Sunday, April 28. With red tie-dye T-shirts, rain ponchos, and even one in a full wetsuit, the runners gathered at Arcado Elementary School for registration, warm ups, entertainment and awards, in age groups from kindergarten to seniors.
The 1K and 5K races, though geared towards children, attracted many participants from the larger community and a few as far away as Buford. Kids giggled through raindrops and waited for the thunder to pass. They had a "cool" experience for late April, but seasoned runners were heard saying “It’s better to be wet than hot.” The 5K course utilized a portion of Arcado Road and wound through adjacent neighborhoods where spectators and course monitors cheered them on. Despite the rain, it was a great day to share some family fun and fitness.
The event was organized by Arcado’s PTA with help from business sponsors in the Lilburn/Stone Mountain area and members of the Atlanta Track Club. We especially appreciated everyone’s cooperation with the Lilburn City Police and brief road closure.
