Legendary Atlanta Band, Radar, To Reunite

Radar, an Atlanta music legend among many of the city's native baby-boomers, will reunite after nearly 40 years. The four-piece psychedelic-soul band was the darling of Atlanta's hippie movement during the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Radar will appear at Smith's Olde Bar, 1578 Piedmont Ave., Atlanta, on Saturday, May 25, at 10:00 p.m. The band's one-hour set will feature songs by members James Cobb and Arthur Offen and lead vocals by Chris Cornish. Athens, Ga. duo Stewart & Winfield will open the show. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.

In the summer of 1970 Radar opened the second, and last, Atlanta Pop Festival in Byron, Ga., setting the tone for a gathering so wild and culturally provocative that the Georgia Legislature banned the festival the following year.

Radar remained a city favorite until the group disbanded in 1973.

Said drummer Tony Garstin, “wherever I play, even all these years later, people always ask me about Radar. We had the formula down, good songwriting and strong vocals.”
