Cadet John Hensley Williams, son of Amy Williams, both of Lilburn, Georgia, completed Cadet Basic Training at the U.S. Military Academy.
Cadet Williams entered West Point June 27 and has successfully completed six weeks of CBT. Also referred to as "Beast Barracks," CBT is one of the most challenging events a cadet will encounter over the course of their four years at the academy.
The initial military training program provides cadets with basic skills to instill discipline, pride, cohesion, confidence and a high sense of duty to prepare them for entry into the Corps of Cadets. Areas of summer instruction included first aid, mountaineering, land navigation, hand grenades, rifle marksmanship as well as nuclear, biological, and
chemical training.
Williams began classes Aug. 15. The West Point curriculum offers 45 majors balancing physical sciences and engineering with humanities and social sciences leading to a Bachelor of Science degree.
Cadet Williams graduated from Parkview High School in 2010. He plans to graduate from West Point in 2015 and be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. While at Parkview, Williams was actively involved in the Marine Corps JROTC program and under the leadership of Gunnery Sergeant David Erwin Williams was nationally ranked in orienteering and represented the United States in the Junior World Orienteering Championship twice in Italy and Denmark.
The U.S. Military Academy is a four-year co-educational federal undergraduate liberal arts college located 50 miles north of New York City. Founded in 1802 as America's first college of engineering, it consistently ranks as one of the top colleges in the nation. A pre-eminent leader development institution, its mission remains constant - to educate, train and inspire cadets for careers of professional service to the Army and the nation.
