Berkmar High to Benefit from Alliance Theatre Production

Part of the proceeds from the Oct. 1 ticket sales at the theatre will go to Berkmar High School as part of Alliance's Arts Advocacy program for Georgia schools.

Alliance Theatre will be featuring a different school each night during the run of its latest musical, Into the Woods, and Berkmar High School will be highlighted on Oct. 1.

Tickets purchased for that night using the promo code "WISH" will benefit Berkmar, with 15 percent of sales bought with that code going to the school.

"One of the main themes of Into the Woods is community awareness and the examples we set for children," said Emily Bryson, brand coordinator at the theatre, part of the Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta. "The Alliance Theatre is using Into the Woods as an opportunity to give back to schools in our community," Bryson said in an email.

The musical is a mix of Brothers Grimm fairy tale plots, but with adult themes, the theatre said.

"The work is a smart and deeply ironic deconstruction of the classic fairy tales that we tell our children and the lessons that we try to teach them, resulting in a piece that asks the haunting question: do we live what we teach or are we teaching what we live?," said Susan V. Booth, artistic director at the Alliance, in a press release.
